 FOR THE FULL CLASS

First, round count is a minimum of 75 rounds. 125 rounds (minimum) if you are also doing the NRA certified course. (Please also bring a few extra in case of misfires or dropped ammo, etc.)

As a student in our Maryland Wear and Carry Handgun Permit (WCHP) course you have the choice of doing the basic Maryland course and adding the NRA certification portion to it which certifies that you have taken the NRA Basic CCW course (never expires) and allows you to also go on to become an NRA Basic CCW Instructor later, if so desired.

There is no extra charge for this NRA certification, and no difference in the class, however, there is extra work and extra qualifications. You will have to pass an open-book, 100+ multiple question test (which you can take during the class) and also you will be required to do a second shooting qualification. You do NOT have to be a member of the NRA to take this course.

The practice portion of the training requires you to shoot 50 rounds of ammunition – there is no pass/fail on this, as it is practice only. You can do this practice with any caliber handgun, but if you are doing the NRA certification, you should use the handgun you will use for that portion of the qualification test (.38 or larger).

The Maryland shooting qualification is on a large B27 target where you must hit the target 18 out of 25 shots. This qualification may be taken with ANY** caliber handgun. You must also have an outside-the-waistband holster (non-SERPA) and 2 magazines.

  •  5-rounds from 3-yards – timed.
  • 10-rounds from 5-yards – timed.
  •  5-rounds from 7-yards – timed.
  •  5-rounds from 15-yards – timed.

** Are there any restrictions on the gun I can qualify with at the range? No. The law simply says “concealable firearm”, concealable firearm as defined by the state simply means a handgun, and the caliber of this handgun could be anything from a .22 to a 44 magnum. Shoot whatever is easiest and most comfortable for you. Maryland law also does not force you to qualify with the handgun you intend to carry.

The NRA qualification is on a USPSA or IDPA target, half the size of the Maryland (B27) qualifier target, and you must hit 50 of 50 shots. At the same time, you start with 100 points and cannot be penalized more than 20 points or you have to re-qualify. You may attempt qualification up to 3 times and may do this within a month or so of the original date of class. Points may be deducted for shots outside the center of the target, failure to scan and assess and failure to count properly, among other things. This qualification must be taken with a .38 caliber or larger (.380, .40, 9mm, .45, etc.) handgun. You must also have an outside-the-waistband holster (non-SERPA) and 3 magazines.

  • 10-rounds from 3-yards
  • 10-rounds from 5-yards
  • 25-rounds from 7-yards
  •  5-rounds from15-yards
